Book an appointmentHow an infection is usually assessed
Assessing an infection starts with the story: when the fever began, whether there was travel or contact with livestock or unpasteurized dairy, and what medicines you have taken. Then an examination and, when needed, tests and samples.
A test result alone is not a diagnosis. Each result is read together with symptoms and examination, and the medicine is chosen from the cause, not a guess.
Treatment does not end with a prescription. The course has to be completed, a repeat sample is sometimes needed, and follow-up after treatment is part of the path. Not every fever needs an antibiotic.
